A Barolo in a class of its own from an exceptional vintage! Very good quality / price ratio!
Above the municipality of Barolo lies one of the most renowned vineyards in the entire Barolo region. Cannubi is the name of this location, which extends over almost 19 hectares from east to south. The Barolo Cannubi wines are characterized by particularly accessible tannins and great elegance. The Borgogno family owns 3 hectares of vineyards in a particularly good position on the Cannubi vineyard.
During October the grapes are picked by hand and carefully selected. After destemming and gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in an oak vat. The maturation then takes place in a very large oak barrel over a period of 2 years. After another year of bottle storage, the wine finally goes on sale.
The Cannubi then has a ruby red color, fruity, berry and spicy aromas combined with great elegance and impressive harmony . The tannins are compact, but already very accessible. In the mouth the Cannubi is balanced, dense and juicy, in the final it is powerful and long. The Barolo is ready to drink straight away, but unfolds all of its elegance and complexity over the course of the next 20 years. A wonderful accompaniment to game, roasts, red meat and mature cheese.
The winery does not use any herbicides, fungicides or pesticides in the vineyard and no additives in the winemaking process.
THE PRODUCER: SERIO & BATTISTA BORGOGNO
The Serio & Battista Borgogno winery has been on the upper part of the Cannubi vineyard, one of the absolute top locations in the entire Barolo wine-growing region, since 1897.
But the family history began in the middle of the 19th century with Cavalier Francesco Borgogno. He produced his own wine, which he then sold in his wife's inn in Barolo. From his son Ludovico, his sons, Serio and Battista, inherited some land and a small farmhouse in Cannubi. With wise foresight, they managed to make your dream of your own winery a reality. Over the years they bought more plots from the Cannubi vineyard and eventually owned 3.5 hectares of this valuable land.
All their lives, Serio and Battista have worked tirelessly to fully exploit the enormous potential of the winery. They have created the basis for the next generations. Today the Cannubi Cru is one of the best locations in the entire Barolo area.
The memory of Serio Borgogno, who died in 2016, lives on in the vines and in the passion that he gave his family in the cradle. His granddaughters, Emanuela and Federica, are now the fifth generation to run the iconic winery. The family produces around 60,000 bottles of wine annually. In addition to Barolo, there are also Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo wines.
