Another excellent wine, this Barolo 2019 from Massolino. It fits seamlessly into the ranks of the powerful, yet at the same time very elegant and refined Barolo wines of the Massolino brothers. Since 1947, the Massolino family has been producing this so-called “entry-level Barolo”, which has long since become the flagship of this renowned winery in the heart of the Barolo community of Serralunga D'Alba.
The grapes for this excellent Barolo come from various plots of the winery, which are scattered throughout the municipality of Serralunga D'Alba on calcareous soil. After being hand-picked in October, the grapes are fermented in wooden vats at around 30 °C and then matured in large Slovenian oak barrels for 30 months. The Barolo is only sold after being bottled for six months.
Due to the fact that the grapes come from different plots, Barolo impresses with a very broad spectrum of aromas, which can range from beguiling spicy notes to sweeter, floral and fruity notes.
On the palate, this full-bodied wine shows its class with a variety of sensations such as structure, elegance and balance. The tannin is beautifully present and polished and we can expect a Barolo with good aging potential. It is recommended to decant it.
