The Cru Montestefano is one of the classic locations in the entire Barbaresco appellation. That's why it was no coincidence that the first single-vineyard wine in the Barbaresco area was made from the berries of the Nebbiolo vines in the Montestefano vineyard. There are only a few wineries that have plots on this small cru and La Ca Növa owns 1.2 hectares of it. The Barbaresco wines from this location are without a doubt the flagship of this winery and impress with the elegance and finesse of their aromas. Typical of wines from this location is a pronounced acidity, which gives the Barbaresco a wonderful freshness.
The grapes for this La Ca Növa Barbaresco Montestefano 2020 DOCG come from vines that are over forty years old and located at an altitude of around 270 meters above sea level with a southern exposure. The grapes are harvested by hand in October and then destemmed and lightly pressed. This is followed by fermentation in an open wooden vat, which lasts a maximum of 20 days. Maturation then takes place over a two-year period in large Austrian oak barrels, as is traditional. A six-month bottle storage then completes the maturation process.
On the nose, the wine impresses with complex and refined fruit aromas made from extremely juicy red fruits. Especially strawberries, cherries and ripe raspberries. On the palate the wine is intense, powerful, structured with a mineral undertone. The tannin present is soft and delicate . This wine has a long and fresh finish. This Barbaresco Montestefano already exudes great class, sophistication and complexity , but will continue to develop in the bottle over the next 15 years!
