The Nebbiolo grapes for the Josetta Saffirio Barolo DOCG del Comune di Monforte d'Alba 2017 come from three different vineyards that have been owned by the Saffirio winery for decades. The Nebbiolo vines are of considerable age and promise berries of the highest quality.
The hand picking of the grapes usually takes place in October and the carefully selected berries are lightly pressed and destemmed. Fermentation then takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 30°/ 32°. Then the aging begins, which takes place in barriques for the wine and lasts 24 months. Finally, the wine is then stored in the bottle during the final phase of aging.
This Barolo impresses with its intense, sweet cherry fruit, a hint of rose petals, but also earthy notes. On the palate, the wine is fruity, mineral with fine tannins and good structure. The aftertaste is balanced and persistent. A balanced and elegant Barolo.
The Barolo goes very well with game, red meat and mature cheese. It is ready to drink immediately and for the next eight years.
The producer: Josetta Saffirio / Sara Vezza
The drive to Josetta Saffirio / Sara Vezza winery from Monforte is a serpentine road that makes you wonder if you're even on the right road. But when you arrive you can see that the winery is looking one of the most precious places of the Barolo wine region. To the east, the winery faces Serralunga d'Alba, known for its clayey soils that produce deep, austere Baroli of incredible longevity. To the west lies Castiglione Falletto with its chalky, sandy soil and elegant Barolo wines.
This location has several advantages: it is located between clayey and calcareous-sandy soils that give the Barolo wines the excellent characteristics of longevity, depth and elegance. The winery itself belongs to the municipality of Monforte d'Alba.
The winery was founded by Josetta Saffirio in the 1970s and is now run by her daughter Sara Vezza, who also owns her own Sara Vezza brand . Sara is passionate about the area she grew up in. For them, the soil and heritage are the motivation to create sustainable wines that are true to the region. She is the fifth generation of a farming family and mother of four children. Under her direction, organic viticulture is practiced on the winery.

Als Speisebegleitung empfehlen wir geschmortes Fleisch, rotes Fleisch, Wild und gereiftem Hartkäse. Passt auch sehr gut zu Pasta mit Pilzen oder Trüffel.
