A great Barolo! Juicy, velvety, fine tannins. Has power but equal finesse and elegance. Class wine from a century of vintage with a lot of expansion potential.

The Nebbiolo grapes for Guido Porro Barolo Santa Caterina DOCG come from the small Santa Caterina vineyard, which is not far from Guido Porro's winery. The wines from this vineyard are characterized by their power and tight-knit tannins but also have a great deal of finesse, elegance and velvetiness. The aromas are varied with delicate spice, full fruit and slightly balsamic notes.

The harvest during the month of October is done by hand with immediate destemming and soft pressing of the grapes in the cellar. Immediately afterwards, temperature-controlled fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks, before the wine is aged in large Slovenian oak barrels over a period of 24 months. After all, the wine is stored in the bottle for almost a year before it is sold.

The Barolo is ready to drink immediately and for the next 15 years. The winery does not use any herbicides, fungicides or pesticides in the vineyard and does not use any additives in the wine preparation. The Barolo goes very well with game and roast beef with a hearty sauce and mature hard cheese.

In the hills of the Langhe, on the ridge road that connects Alba to Monforte d'Alba, Guido Porro's winery is located in the village of Serralunga d'Alba. Guido's wine cellar is in one of the most beautiful locations in the Langhe, with views of castles and the Alps in the distance, and acres and acres of beautiful vineyards.

Guido is a quiet guy who produces some of the best Barolo wines. He is a fourth generation winemaker and all this experience has made him one of the best kept secrets in the Langhe. Four Barolo Cru wines from four different Cru parcels - the infamous Vigna Rionda, Gianetto, Lazzaraisco and Santa Caterina. He also produces Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto.
