  • Barolo Castelletto DOCG is a complex, pleasant and balanced red wine obtained from Nebbiolo grapes coming from a single vineyard, Castelletto. Located in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, this vineyard was replanted in 1999 and has an east-southeast orientation with an extreme slope of the vineyard, which makes manual work such as grape harvesting essential.

    Fermentation of the lightly pressed grapes occurs spontaneously with native yeasts and slow polyphenol extraction in temperature-controlled stainless steel containers.
    After aging in large oak barrels for about three years, the wine then rests in concrete tanks for a few months and is finally bottled during the waning moon period.

    On the nose, this Giovanni Manzone 2018 Barolo Castelletto impresses with a harmonious mix of red berries, blue fruits and dark earth. Delicate floral notes add a touch of elegance to the aromatic profile. On the palate, the Manzone Barolo reveals its true character.

    This full-bodied wine has a remarkable texture and envelops the senses with its magnificent presence. The focus is on the notes of dark fruits, whose sweet aromas mix with notes of rose petals and dried spices. The present tannins and the fresh and lively acids round off the wine beautifully and leave a lasting impression. This Barolo Castelletto exhibits a perfect balance between power and finesse.

    Drinking window: 2023-2032

    The Manzone family runs a family winery whose origins date back to the 19th century. However, actual wine production only began in 1965 under Giovanni Manzone, the father of the current owner Mauro. Mauro then joined the company in 2005 after successfully completing his oenology studies. The family follows an artisanal philosophy, personally oversees all processes and practices nature-friendly agriculture without insecticides or fertilizers. The wine is made without intervention, with manual work from pruning to bottling. The vineyards with the renowned Castelletto and Gramolere sites, high and steep, produce concentrated and long-lasting Barolo wines.

    This Barolo is at its best when served with red meat, especially game, steak and dishes with truffles. It also goes excellently with meat sauce, risotto and medium-ripened cheese made from cow's and goat's milk.
