For the Fratelli Borgogno Barolo Cannubi Riserva 2015 DOCG only the best grapes from one of the 3 Cannubi vineyards owned by the family are selected.
The Cru Cannubi is probably one of the most complex and fascinating areas of the entire Barolo production area. The uniqueness of this vineyard lies in the unique combination of the two main locations of the Barolo area (Elveziano and Tortoniano), composed mainly of fine sand and limestone, which, combined with the microclimatic conditions and the exposure, give the wine richness, elegance, delicacy and longevity.
Hand picking takes place during the month of October. After destemming, the mash is fermented in open wooden vats for about 30-40 days. The malolactic fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks. The Barolo is matured in medium-sized Slovenian oak barrels over a period of 52 months. The wine is only sold after six months of bottle storage.
This high-quality Barolo Riserva has aromas of red and black berries underlaid with light tobacco and peppery notes. On the palate, this wine is dense, elegant and well structured. The youthful tannins are accessible and fine-grained. The aftertaste is persistent, firm and earthy. This Barolo is already showing its class and promises to keep its quality for the next decade. Good accompaniment to roasts, game, red meats and aged cheeses.
