The Cru Cannubi is probably one of the most complex and fascinating areas of the entire Barolo growing area. The uniqueness of this vineyard lies in the unique combination of the two main locations of the Barolo area (Elveziano and Tortoniano), composed mainly of fine sand and limestone, which, combined with the microclimatic conditions and the exposure, give the wine richness, elegance, delicacy and longevity.

For the Fratelli Borgogno Barolo Cannubi Riserva 2015 DOCG only the best grapes from one of the 3 Cannubi vineyards owned by the family are selected. The hand harvest takes place during the month held in October. After destemming, the mash is fermented in open wooden vats for about 30-40 days. The malolactic fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks. The Barolo is matured in medium-sized Slovenian oak barrels over a period of 52 months. The wine is only sold after six months of bottle storage.

This high-quality Barolo Riserva has aromas of red and black berries underlaid with light tobacco and peppery notes. On the palate, this wine is dense, elegant and well structured. The youthful tannins are accessible and fine-grained. The aftertaste is persistent, firm and earthy. This Barolo is already showing its class and promises to keep its quality for the next decade. Good accompaniment to roasts, game, red meat and aged cheeses.

THE PRODUCER: SERIO & BATTISTA BORGOGNO

The Serio & Battista Borgogno winery has been located since 1897 on the upper part of the Cannubi vineyard, one of the absolute top locations in the entire Barolo wine-growing region.

But the family history began in the middle of the 19th century with Cavalier Francesco Borgogno. He produced his own wine, which he then sold at his wife's inn in Barolo. From his son Ludovico his sons, Serio and Battista, inherited some land and a small farmhouse in Cannubi. With wise foresight, they managed to make your dream of owning your own winery a reality. Over the years they bought additional plots of Cannubi vineyard and ended up owning 3.5 hectares of this valuable land.

All their lives, Serio and Battista have worked tirelessly to fully exploit the enormous potential of the winery. They have thus created the basis for the next generations. Today, the Cannubi Cru is one of the best locations in the entire Barolo area.

The memory of Serio Borgogno, who died in 2016, lives on in the vines and in the passion he instilled in his family. Today the winery is run by his granddaughters, Emanuela and Federica. They are already the 5th generation of this iconic winery. The family produces around 60,000 bottles of wine a year. Besides Barolo also Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo wines.
