This expressive Barolo wine is made from grapes from the renowned Crus Ginestra and Le Coste. The majority of the berries come from the Ginestra plots Pajana and Ciabot, both of which face southeast. The Nebbiolo vines have an average age of 20 years and grow on calcareous marl soils with a high proportion of white clay. The Barolo label is inspired by an old bottle (1921) of Barolo Ginestra made by Conterno Lorenzo, Diego's great-grandfather.
After the hand-picking in October, the berries from both locations are carefully selected for further processing and then vinified separately. Fermentation takes place with local yeasts in a temperature-controlled steel tank. The wine is then aged for 24 months in 50 hl oak barrels and then for a further 8 months in cement tanks. Finally, after a short storage period in the bottle, the Barolo is released for sale.
The wine exudes great depth and complexity. Influenced by the terroir and with unbridled power, it shows balsamic and spicy notes that uniquely reflect the Ginestra location. The nose is dominated by aromas of cherries, dried flowers, orange peel and warm spices. On the palate it is explosive and youthful, with still full-bodied but noble tannins.
A real muscle pack with good balance, impressive structure and seductive elegance . Fantastic length!
