A perfectly balanced Barolo with complex aromas and lots of elegance, harmony and full-bodiedness.
Since 1961, the Deltetto family has been producing a Barolo single-vineyard wine made from Nebbiolo grapes from Cru`s Parussi from the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. Thanks to the father Antonio of the current owner Carlo, the Cantina Deltetto in Canale, which is outside the Barolo area, received one of the few permits to produce their Barolo there. Today, however, these permits are no longer granted.
The grapes for this Deltetto Barolo Parussi 2014 are harvested by hand at the beginning of October and carefully selected for further processing. After the grapes have been transported to the winery in Canale, they are de-stemmed and lightly pressed and then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The expansion takes place over 24 months in large oak barrels and then a 1-year bottle storage takes place before the Barolo goes on sale.
This Barolo Parussi has a slightly berry, peppery scent with red and black berry aromas. Its elegance, structure and density impress on the palate. The tannins are grippy and well balanced, and the rich, spicy finish has good depth. The Barolo is ready to drink immediately and the next 15 years. A wonderful accompaniment to game, roasts, red meat and mature cheese.
The producer: Deltetto
Carlo Deltetto took over the management of the winery from his father Tonino a few years ago. As has become a tradition in Piedmont, Carlo is also supported by the entire family. His parents and his two sisters hold important positions in the winery.
Founded in 1953 by Carlo Deltetto, the grandfather of the current owner, the winery is located in the heart of the municipality of Canale. Over the decades that followed, the business grew steadily and today, Deltetto is an established name in the region.
Deltetto has earned a reputation for producing high quality white wines, dry sparkling wines and autochthonous red wines. The Roero Arneis grape variety is widespread in the Canale area due to the nature of the soil, and the white wines are made from this grape variety the flagship of the winery. Incidentally, Roero Arneis is one of the few wines whose taste cannot be felt on the tongue but only on the palate. The Nebbiolo has also found a home in the Roero area and Carlo Deltetto produces a Barolo Parussi single-vineyard wine as well as a Nebbiolo D'Alba and the Roero wine, which can only be found in this area. The Deltetto winery practices organic viticulture.
