Gianfranco Alessandria's Barolo red wine has been an undiscovered jewel for years. This is even more true for the 2020 vintage, which is beautifully straightforward and balanced.
The berries for the Gianfranco Alessandria Barolo 2020 DOCG come from various Nebbiolo slopes of the family in the municipality of Monforte D'Alba. The hand-picked and carefully selected grapes are lightly pressed and destemmed. Fermentation takes place in vertical fermentation tanks with a controlled temperature and a short maceration time. The wines are then aged in French barriques and last 24 months. After a short bottle storage period, the Barolo is then sold.
The diverse aromas are impressive, with notes of sweet, red berries, spices and dry flowers. The hearty and soft tannins are very balanced alongside the fine fruit sweetness and the abundant acidity. The finish has a good length and the acidity at the end makes the wine appear slim and elegant. A very successful Barolo!
