The Pernanno location is one of the best crus in the Barolo municipality of Castiglione Falletto . The Monchiero family owns two hectares of vines on this well-orientated vineyard with fifty-year-old Nebbiolo vines. The exceptional 2016 vintage is a top-class Barolo Pernanno Riserva and a homage to the important Nebbiolo grape variety, which has been cultivated by the Monchiero family since the middle of the last century.
“Pernanno is the result of our awareness of the richness that flows naturally into the life and products of the earth,” says Vittorio Monchiero. “The experience gained over many years has guided us in the selection of grapes from the vineyards of this hill, allowing us to bring to the glass a wine with great structure, expressed in an excellent bouquet and a long shelf life.”
After the hand harvest in October, the carefully selected grapes are fermented in special stainless steel fermentation tanks. The subsequent maturation takes place in large oak barrels and lasts 52 months. Finally, the Barolo is stored in bottles for a few more months before it goes on sale.
The result is a great Barolo with a long shelf life. The nose is dominated by dried vegetable to tobacco scents with berry and floral notes. Floral and mushroomy nuances, pleasant freshness and present tannins impress on the palate. The langhe finish is beautifully spicy and floral. This Barolo goes well with game, red meat, roasts and mature cheeses.
