The Giovanni Manzone 2021 Barbera d'Alba Le Ciliegie DOC is a juicy and lively red wine obtained from Barbera grapes coming from various vineyards within the municipality of Monforte d'Alba.
After hand-picking in October, the berries are destemmed and gently pressed. The mash is then spontaneously fermented with native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel containers. The wine matures between large oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. After the refinement is complete, the final wine is bottled on the waning moon.
The nose is dominated by red fruits such as black cherries, cranberries and currants; Medium intensity on the palate paired with well-integrated acidity. This Barbera has freshness, warmth and balance. Drinking window: 2023-2027
The Manzone family runs a family winery whose origins date back to the 19th century. However, actual wine production only began in 1965 under Giovanni Manzone, the father of the current owner Mauro. Mauro then joined the company in 2005 after successfully completing his oenology studies. The family follows an artisanal philosophy, personally oversees all processes and practices nature-friendly agriculture without insecticides or fertilizers. The wine is made without intervention, with manual work from pruning to bottling. The vineyards with the renowned Castelletto and Gramolere sites, high and steep, produce concentrated and long-lasting Barolo wines.
This Barbera goes well with fresh pasta and fresh tomato ragout, meat sauces, focaccia, white meat, Sardinian pecorino cheese and salted black olives.
