For the Fratelli Borgogno Barolo Cannubi Riserva 2016 DOCG, the grapes are very carefully selected from the 3 family-owned Cannubi vineyards.
The Cru Cannubi is certainly one of the most interesting locations in the entire Barolo growing area.
The peculiarity of this area lies in the unique combination of the two dominant soil layers of the Barolo area (Elveziano and Tortoniano), composed mainly of fine sand and limestone, which, combined with the microclimatic conditions and the exposure, give the wine richness, elegance , delicacy and longevity.
The harvest is always done by hand in October. The mash is then fermented in open wooden vats for about 30-40 days. The malolactic fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks. The Barolo is then matured in medium-sized Slovenian oak barrels. The expansion time is 52 months. The wine only goes on sale after six months of bottle storage.
This high-quality Barolo Riserva shows classic floral notes and has berry aromas of raspberries and blackberries. It is well structured, compact, very elegant and balanced on the palate. The tannin is very well integrated and already accessible. The finale is persistent, with good freshness and a lot of enamel. This Barolo already has great class and promises to maintain or further develop its quality over the next decade. Goes well with roasts, game, red meat and aged cheeses.
