Roberto Ferraris 2019 Monferrato Nebbiolo DOC is a fantastic Nebbiolo with rich aromas, fine tannins and lots of elegance and warmth.
The Nebbiolo grape variety comes from northern Piedmont and can be found in many regions of the province. The best known are the Langhe and Roero growing areas. Interestingly, up to the end of the 12th century, the Nebbiolo grape variety was most widespread in the Asti region and was mentioned in documents as Grixia (Grey) grape variety.
Following tradition, Roberto Ferraris, whose winery is located in Agliano Terme in the Asti regiont, also uses the name Grixia for its high-quality Nebbiolo wine. The soil conditions for the Nebbiolo vine are optimal here and comparable to the conditions in the neighboring Langhe region.
The Ferraris family's Nebbiolo vineyard faces south-west at 260 meters above sea level. The grapes are harvested by hand at the end of September/beginning of October each year, then destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The expansion takes place in 500 liter oak barrels (tonneau) and lasts 15-18 months. After a short period of bottle storage, the Nebbiolo is finally available for sale.
This high-quality Nebbiolo shows classic fruity and berry aromas with a little air; has a lot of substance and density, is velvety, elegant with fine-grained tannins and a long finish. All very good and straight forward. This wine is ready to drink immediately and the next eight years.
A good accompaniment to risotto, white meat, lamb and aged cheeses.
