In the idyllic village of "Ciocchini", which belongs to the municipality of La Morra, the vineyard Roere Santa Maria is located in a south-westerly direction. This entire vineyard has been owned by the Monchiero family and them for almost 4 decades produce an excellent Barolo single-site wine from this cru.

I m the course of October, the grapes are picked by hand and, after destemming, they ferment in a temperature-controlled stainless steel tank. They are then placed in a large oak barrel for maturation. This process takes at least 24 months, depending on the age group. The expansion will only be completed when the wine has been bottled and has been in the bottle for six months.

The Barolo is very inviting with a strong nose, sweetish fruit, has strength, juice and tension . Everything is well framed by the discreetly used wood. The tannin is fine-grained and delicate. Has a slightly nutty vein and a good length. A full-bodied single site wine with the elegance and harmony typical of La Morra.

The wine goes very well with aged cheese, risotto, game, roast and lamb. It is ready to drink now and for the next 10 years.

The producer Monchiero

In Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo area, the Monchiero family began their journey to wine in the 1950s. The brothers Remo and Maggiorino Monchiero, who at that time still lived in the municipality of La Morra, cultivated the first vineyards in Castiglione Falletto. At first, as was quite common at this time, they only sold their grapes to the cooperative.

It was not until the early 1970s that they decided to produce their own wine, to fill it in bottles and to offer it for sale. This step entailed a great risk at the time, because most winegrowers could not make a living from viticulture on their own and also pursued it Agriculture or agriculture and ranching. However, their courage paid off, because the brothers found an importer who sold their entire Barolo collection in the USA.

Another turning point in the wine business was the entry of Vittorio Monchiero, the son of Maggiorino, into the company. He graduated from the viticulture school in Alba in the 80s and was gradually integrated into the business that his father and uncle had built up.

After he met his wife Daniela married, he took over the wine cellar and the marketing in the 90s, traveled and attended trade fairs all over the world. Tradition and innovation left their mark, production grew, not least thanks to the acquisition of exquisite properties with a focus on Castiglione Falletto and La Morra, but also in Alba, Roddi and Verduno. The family in La Morra owns the entire Cri Cru Roere Santa Maria.

In the meantime, the next generation of Monchiero is ready. I n 2017 Vittorio's eldest son Luca joined the family winery, while Stefano, his second-born, attends the University of Agricultural Sciences in order to continue the family tradition, which is called: Sustainable Baroli in the sense of culture and tradition in the interplay between To create people and nature.
