The Massolino family has been cultivating the Vigna Rionda vineyard since the 1950s. Father Giovanni's foresight led to the purchase of the first plot of this exceptional cru.
The wines made from the berries of this hill have exceptional power and structure due to the soil and microclimate, but also impress with wonderful elegance and harmony.
Intense floral aromas dominate the nose, but also concentrated cherry notes. On the palate, the wine is rich, smooth and lush. The acidity is very well integrated, the tannin fine with great finesse and concentration. Long lasting finish. A truly great Barolo!
Hand picking takes place in the second half of October. After the berries have been destemmed, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then matured in large oak barrels and this process usually takes 42 months. The subsequent aging in the bottle, which is usually 30 months, takes place in dark and cool storage rooms provided for this purpose. The aging period is so long because this Barolo needs time to develop its characteristics and reveal its great depth.
This Barolo is the perfect accompaniment to game, red meat and aged cheeses. It is ready to drink now, but has enormous development potential over the next 12-15 years.
Massolino has had a say in the history of Barolo from the very beginning. Today the winery is one of the most important producers in the Langhe.
The Massolino winery is inextricably linked to the village of Serralunga d'Alba and is one of the most renowned wineries in the Langhe. Beautifully located on the edge of the village square, you can see the steep vineyards and the entire panorama of the Alps
The winery was founded in 1896 by Giovanni Massolino. He was responsible for connecting the village to the electricity grid. His perseverance and creativity were the basis for today's traditional and excellent winery.
Today, the fourth generation, Franco Massolino makes wines with passion and the aim of preserving the unique characteristics of the grape varieties grown and with the conviction that there is a deep and palpable bond between the vines, the hills and gives to the wine producer. The Massolino family has followed this philosophy since 1896 - and does not shut itself off from the necessary innovations as long as tradition is preserved. In short - always loyal to yourself.
