Master of Wine J.Robinson: "Simply delicious! One of the best buys of this vintage"
Massolino Barolo Commune Serralunga d'Alba 2017 DOCG has been the flagship of the winery for many years and the delicious 2017 vintage fits seamlessly into the ranks of the many excellent Barolo wines of the Massolino family.
The Nebbiolo grapes for the Massolino Barolo Commune Serralunga d'Alba 2017 DOCG come from different vineyards in Serralunga D'Alba and Castiglione Falletto, which is why the aroma spectrum of the wines is very broad.
The manual harvest takes place in the second half of October. After the berries have been destemmed, fermentation then takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then matured in large oak barrels and this process takes at least 30 months. The subsequent aging in the bottle, which usually lasts one year, takes place in dark and cool storage rooms provided for this purpose.
This impressive Massolino Barolo Commune Serralunga d'Alba 2017 DOCG has a wide range of fragrances, consisting of red berries, exotic plums, but also concentrated cherries, dark spice and mineral, stony notes. The density and concentration of the sour cherry fruit, which is accompanied by long, finely woven tannins, is impressive on the palate. A really fine, powerful Barolo paired with great elegance and balance.
The Barolo goes very well with red meat, game and egg pasta with meat sauce. It is already very drinkable and will reach its full potential over the next 8-10 years.
Massolino helped shape the history of Barolos from the beginning. Today the winery is one of the most important producers in the Langhe.
