A wonderfully harmonious Barbaresco vineyard wine. Has everything that makes a special wine.

The Cru Montestanfo is undoubtedly one of the classic vineyards of the Barbaresco apellation. It was no coincidence that the first single-vineyard wine in the Barbaresco area was produced from Montestefano Cru grapes. There are only a few wineries that have plots on this small cru and La Ca Növa owns 1.2 hectares.

The grapes for this Barbaresco are carefully harvested by hand in October and then immediately destemmed and lightly pressed. Fermentation follows in open wooden vats, which lasts a maximum of 20 days. Maturation then takes place over a two-year period in large Slovenian oak barrels, as is traditional. Six months of bottle storage then completes the maturation process.

This Barbaresco from the Montestefano site has a finely knitted bouquet with red fruits and balsamic notes. On the palate it is very balanced with fine-meshed tannins and a delicious finish that has length and fresh radiance. This wine is ready to drink immediately, but will only reveal its full potential over the next 15+ years.

This wine goes very well with lamb, game, risotto and mature cheese. The winery practices organic viticulture.


The La Ca Növa winery is located just outside the village of Barbaresco, in the center of the Barbaresco wine region. Marco Rocca, the owner of the winery, is a real artisan and produces top quality Barbaresco wines.

Marco believes in a hands-on approach to winemaking. He mixes the mash in open wooden vats by hand - with a large wooden spoon. This is a tedious and extremely time-consuming process. The benefit, however, is that it manages to extract more color and polyphenols from its mash.

The tradition and adherence to Piedmontese culture can be felt throughout this winery. Marco's honest, direct, simple and traditional approach to winemaking is something that sets him apart from many other wineries.

La Ca Növa produces three types of Barbaresco, a classic Barbaresco and two Cru Barbaresco wines from plots in Montestfano and Montefico that it owns. He also produces Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto.
