A highly recommended, authentic Barbaresco with a good quality/price ratio.
The grapes for La Ca Növa Barbaresco 2018 DOCG come from different vineyards owned by the winery, all located within the municipality of Barbaresco.
The grapes are harvested by hand in October and then immediately destemmed and lightly pressed. This is followed by fermentation in open wooden vats, which lasts a maximum of 20 days. Maturation then takes place in large Slovenian oak barrels, as is tradition. Six months of bottle storage then completes the maturation process.
This Barbaresco has the typical garnet red Nebbiolo color and floral, fruity notes. In the mouth it has an invigorating freshness, is finely woven and tightly structured with well-balanced tannins and a hearty finish. The wine is ready to drink immediately and for the next 10+ years.
It goes very well with white meat, lamb or risotto. The winery practices organic viticulture.
THE PRODUCER: LA CA NÖVA
If you drive out of the village of Barbaresco, you can drive almost straight into the La Ca Növa winery. Marco Rocca is a classic producer who makes traditional and wonderful Barbaresco wines. He is a shy man who works with great experience and consistency to produce grapes of the highest standard.
Marco is a traditional artisan who literally makes wines with his hands. The mash is mixed in open wooden vats with a large wooden spoon - a strenuous and time-consuming process. However, this fully manual process allows Marco to extract more color and polyphenols from the mash.
La Ca Növa produces three Barbaresco varieties, the classic Barbaresco coming from different plots and two Cru Barbaresco wines coming from Montefico and Montestfano. Marco also makes Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto.
