The Autinbej has only been produced for a few vintages, but fits seamlessly into the ranks of authentic Ca' del Baio wines. The Ca' del Baio Barbaresco Autinbej 2019 DOCG is a very authentic and expressive Barbaresco with a good price/quality ratio.
The name Autinbej means "sunny location" in the Piedmontese dialect and was one of the favorite words of Ernesto Grasso, father of the current owner Giulio. This Barbaresco is a homage to Ernesto, so to speak, and the family actually presses the Autinbej from grapes from different plots that enjoy particularly intense sunlight.
The grapes are harvested by hand in October, then destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation then takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and lasts up to 15 days. This is followed by a 24-month expansion in large Slovenian oak barrels. Finally, the wine ages in the bottle for a further 6 months before going on sale.
The Barbaresco Autinbej has a garnet red color and has intense fruity, spicy and balsamic aromas. On the palate it is characterized by a pleasant juiciness, but also by harmony and structure. Finely woven tannins and a long, slightly spicy finish complete the picture. The wine is ready to drink immediately and for the next 10+ years. It goes very well with risotto, poultry and mature cheeses.
