A top Barolo vineyard wine with diverse aromas, great harmony, complexity and fine tannins. This 2016 vintage particularly accentuates the harmony and complexity of Albarella.

The Albarella Cru is located in the municipality of Barolo and runs northwest of the Cannubi vineyard. A smaller location, but which has become more important in recent years. Andrea Oberto owns one hectare of vines on this cru and produces around 4000 bottles of Barolo a year. The Baroli of this location are characterized by their good structure and great harmony. This harmony is particularly pronounced in the 2016 vintage.

Hand picking usually takes place in October and the grapes are destemmed immediately after picking, pressed and then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Maturation then takes place in French barriques over a period of 2 years. Then the wine is placed in a stainless steel tank for 2 months and after six months of bottle storage the Albarella is then sold.

Andrea Oberto Barolo Albarella 2016 DOCG has predominantly balsamic and vegetal notes and impresses on the palate with its full-bodiedness, structure and great harmony. The tannin is pleasantly substantial and easily accessible. The wine is ready to drink immediately, but also has great aging potential. Goes well with roasts, game, red meat and mature cheeses. The winery operates integrated viticulture.

    THE PRODUCER: ANDREA OBERTO

The history of the Andrea Oberto winery began when the grandfather of the current owner, Fabio, bought a farmhouse in the municipality of La Morra. Today, La Morra is the largest and also one of the most important growing areas in the entire Barolo region. But in the early 1950s, none of the winegrowers could make a living from growing grapes alone. Because of this, the Oberto family made a living from farming and animal husbandry, and growing grapes was more of a sideline.

It was only when the demand for Barolo grew that Andrea decided to give up his secure job as a bus driver to concentrate entirely on winegrowing. His son Fabio was then able to build on this when he ran the winery took over. Today the winery is one of the established Barolo producers in La Morra. Annual production is a good 125,000 bottles of wine and Fabio produces three different Barolo vineyard wines. They come from the most prestigious crus in La Morra: Albarella, Brunate and Rocche dell' Annunziata.
