The Chardonnay vine thrives particularly well on calcareous to calcareous soils and thus finds excellent growing conditions in Piedmont. So it made sense for the Rocca family to use the limestone soils of the Langhe to produce high-quality Chardonnay wines. Since 1994 they have been cultivating this grape variety on plots of their vineyards in Barbaresco, Neive and San Rocco Seno d'Elvio. And year after year, Albino Rocca succeeds in producing beautifully fresh and harmonious wines.
After the hand-picked harvest in September, the grapes are gently pressed and then fermented at a cool temperature in stainless steel tanks. Cool fermentation and the absence of malolactic fermentation help to preserve freshness and emphasize the fruit. The aging then takes place in steel tanks and the wine ages on the fine lees for 6-8 months before bottling.
The result is a wonderfully fresh, fruity and harmonious Chardonnay. It smells of ripe oranges, lemons, fresh apricots, peaches and very slightly of fresh herbs. On the palate it has a full, but not too muscular taste and impresses with its harmony and elegance.
This Chardonnay goes very well with river fish such as trout, also with white meat, fish appetizers and fresh ricotta cheese. The drinking window: immediately and over the next four years.
